A street team is a term used in marketing to describe a group of people who ‘hit the streets’ promoting an event or a product .wiki.
It can be traced back to 1975 with the KISS ARMY, a group of young fans determined to promote the KISS name. The format which is better known today was originally developed by independent urban record labels as a way to promote their artist through the fans. The Street Team format has now spread accross all genres of music, from small bands to world famous acts, independent record labels to world renowned labels such as Warners.
